1) Masukkan beberapa keping asam gelugur (asam keping) atau beberapa kuntun bunga cengkih ke dalam bekas gula untuk menghalau dan mengelak semut. Bau asam keping atau bunga cengkih tidak menghilangkan atau menukar rasa manis gula.

2) Siat-siat beberapa helai daun sirih dan taburkan pada kawasan laluan semut atau tempat semut berkerumun.

3) Letakkan beberapa tangkai cili kering pada timbunan gula. Ini menghindarkan semut menghampiri gula.

4) Celup kain bersih ke dalam minyak masak dan ikat kain tersebut pada tempat yang dikerumni semut seperti baling gula, keliling meja dan sebagainya.

5) Masukkan beberapa biji bawang merah ke dalam bekas gula. Tak perlu kupas kulit bawang tersebut.

6) Bakar kulit telur hingga menjadi abu. Tabur abu ini pada kawasan laluan semut atau tempat semut berkerumun.

Di antara yang membuat saya bahagia ialah apabila mengenang kembali melahir dan membesarkan anak-anak. Setengah dozen semuanya, kadang-kadang terasa seolah-olah tidak percaya, saya mampu melaluinya. Membesarkan anak-anak di tengah bandaraya yang bukan kecil cabarannya.

Di antara yang membuat saya senyum juga adalah apabila mengenangkan keletihan bekerja sepanjang hari disambung pula dengan tugas memastikan mereka menjalankan rutin ibadah dan rutin belajar setiap malam. Enam anak dengan seribu kerenah, seribu warna kehidupan. Tangis dan ketawa mereka, pencak dan gurau mereka kekadang mengundang kemarahan tetapi selalunya menjadi hiburan jiwa seorang wanita yang tidak punya apa-apa ini..

Di antara yang membuat saya bahagai ialah apabila Allah memberi saya kemampuan untuk saya menyusukan semua anak-anak  sepuasnya.  Tekad untuk menyusui sendiri anak-anak agar mereka membesar dengan sempurna tercapai jua. Walau penat, walau susah alhamdulillah ia tetap terlaksana. Di hati berdoa agr setiap titisan susu itu menjadi ibadah, dan ia mengalir di tubuh anak menghasilkan gelombang suci ke jiwanya agar besar nanti tetap mengabdi kepada Ilahi.

Saya bertuah kerana mempunyai ibu yang tidak percaya dengan cara 'berpantang' orang Melayu atau makan jamu.  Saya disuruh banyak makan sayur, minum air. Tiada istilah 'masuk angin' atau memanjakan diri dengan tidur sepanjang hari. Pulang dari hospital selepas bersalin lalu mencapai penyapu  atau mencuci sendiri lampin anak mungkin agak pelik bagi sebahagian orang orang Melayu. 

Saya disuruh makan sayur jantung pisang setiap hari. Kata ibu agar air susu banyak terhasil. Jantung pisang dimasak kuah putih dicampur bawang dan halia dan kadang-kadang ditambah sedikit santan menjadi makanan wajib setiap hari. Ia juga ulaman dalam pecal.

Hari ini semasa berbual-bual dengan Dr. Maizirwan pakar bioteknologi UIA, beliau memberitahu bahawa seorang lagi pakar sains UIA menemukan bukti  kandungan zat yang ada dalam bunga jantung pisang boleh meningkatkan aktiviti hormon estrogen yang berfungsi  mengaktifkan sel untuk menghasilkan air susu ibu.

Subhanallah, syukur kepada Allah yang mengilhamkan ibu saya menyediakan sayur jantung pisang setiap kali saya bersalin.

Kekayaan zat yang ada dalam jantung pisang juga membantu mempertahankan badan dari serangan stroke.

Buat para ibu muda, susukanlah bayi dengan sebaiknya. Ia hadiah yang amat berharga tiada tolok bandingnya.
